What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is an innovative cost-effective therapy that can target specific pain in the bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It’s a non-invasive and safe treatment that gives significant or total relief of pain in 90% of patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders.

Shockwaves are high-powered sound waves that can transfer energy from outside the body to inside the body. When you’re treated with Shockwave Therapy at Burwood Osteo & Rehab:

1. Your practitioner will use a hand-held device connected to a machine that turns compressed air into sound waves
2. They’ll apply some light pressure and move the device over the area that requires treatment. It takes about 5 minutes to deliver a single treatment
3. Gel is applied to the skin beforehand to help transmit the shockwaves through the skin.

One of the big benefits of Shockwave Therapy is that you can heal quickly as shockwaves stimulate the body to heal itself. Shockwaves pass through the body without breaking the skin, unlike an injection which can cause damage to the tissue treated over time.

This makes it an ideal treatment for athletes and from anyone suffering from chronic pain. Experience the same treatment that many Olympians and professional athletes including well known AFL and NRL teams use so they can heal and go back to play quickly.
