Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopaths focus on your neuromusculoskeletal system - the bones, muscles, nerves and connective tissues that support your whole body, and control its movements to return to a state of “balance.” Osteopaths recognise that the body is a holistic unit, and the link between the body’s structure and function and how they work together for optimal health.

DO I NEED A GP REFERRAL?

You do not need a doctor's referral to see us. Osteopathic consults can be covered by Medicare if you are eligible for a Chronic disease management plan (CDM) care plan. You can be eligible for this if you are suffering from chronic pain. If eligible you must visit your GP and then they can write you up a plan and then include your referral to us. This can provide up to a maximum of 5 sessions per calendar year for osteopathic services rebated by Medicare. If you are unsure how to qualify for this please feel free to contact us for further information or speak to your GP. We request that you pay for your CDM consultation up front and then you can get the rebate from Medicare.

DO YOU SUPPORT HEALTH INSURANCE, DVA OR WORKCOVER?

Your Burwood Osteopath supports HICAPS and you can claim your benefit on the spot if you have private health insurance with osteopathic extras. Your level of rebate will depend on your level of cover with your provider. Our local osteopaths are registered for workcover, DVA and TAC service providers. If you are claiming care under these schemes with the appropriate paperwork, Burwood Osteo & Rehab requires payment on the day of the consult.

WHAT ARE YOUR PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS?

Our Melbourne Burwood Osteopaths are members of Osteopath Australia, are registered with AHPRA, have 5 years university qualifications, and are fully insured. Bronwyn is also recognised as an Accredited Exercise Rehabilitative Osteopath with Osteopathy Australia, one of the first in Australia!

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN APPOINTMENT?

A consultation with your local osteopath will include a thorough case history and examination, working diagnosis, and a wide variety of hands on treatment methods to get you moving better. Treatment methods may include soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and/or manipulation, stretching, dry needling, exercises, advice and recommendations
